  David M. Conway, Ed.D.
Director, Aviation Sciences Institute

Dr. Conway has been the Director of the Aviation Sciences Institute since its creation in 2000. Prior to the formation of the ASI he served as chair of the Aerospace Department at SOSU. He has been on the faculty since 1998.

Dr. Conway earned his B.S. degree at Texas A&M - Commerce, his M.S. at the University of Southern California, and his Ed.D. at Oklahoma State University. He also completed human factors and physiology coursework at specialized schools including OSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine, Trinity University, and USAF School of Aerospace Medicine. Dr. Conway retired from the U.S. Air Force as a command pilot where he served as an instructor pilot and evaluator pilot in the Cessna T-37 & Boeing KC-135. Dr. Conway is also one of a handful of flight rated aerospace physiologists and holds Commercial, Instrument, CFI and Multiengine ratings.

Dr. Conway is a consulting editor for the International Journal of Applied Aviation Studies and is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Air Transportation World Wide. Dr. Conway's research interests focus on human factors in high altitude environments; he has had numerous articles published in various journals and magazines focusing on human factors in aviation.


Dr. Conway is currently a member in good standing of the Aerospace Medical Association, Aerospace Physiology Association, American Physiological Society, Oklahoma City Aviation Education Alliance, University Aviation Association, the Durant Airport Advisory Committee, and the Durant Rotary. He was recently nominated and selected to attend Oklahoma's Education Leadership Academy's Outstanding Professor's Academy. He was also nominated and selected to receive the 2003 Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Faculty Senate Award for Excellence in Service.

David is married to Cathy Ann Conway and has one son - Christopher. His interests outside of work include flying, motorcycles, and antiques.
