ASI Scholarship Essay Requirements

Every student who applies for one or more ASI scholarship must turn in one essay. The essay must meet ALL of the following requirements or it will be rejected. Any scholarship application without an accompanying essay will be rejected. Any essay received after the 1 March, 2008 deadline will be rejected.

This year applying for an ASI scholarship will be a two part process.

First, you must apply for a scholarship using the SOSU scholarship application form.

Second, you must also write and submit one two-page essay. Note, if you apply for two or more ASI scholarships you will still only need to email ONE essay.

Bottom line:

You must complete both the electronic scholarship application as well as one essay in order to qualify for any ASI scholarship.

Specific ASI Scholarship Essay Requirements:

1. The essay itself must be two pages long - no longer - no shorter. A third sheet with your name and other information as listed below must be attached..

2. The essay must be created and submitted using the MS Word ASI Scholarship Essay template
(ASI Scholarship Essay Template available here).
(Right click on the link and choose the "Save As" option to save a copy of the template on your computer)

a. 8.5" X 11" page
b. 1" margins all around
c. 12 point Times New Roman font
d. Double spaced

3. The third sheet must include the following information

a. Full Name
b. SOSU student ID number (NOT your Social Security Number)
c. Email address
d. Local telephone or cell phone number
e. Permanent mailing address
f. Check all ASI scholarships for which you are applying
g. ACT/SAT score

4. Topic of the essay:

The Essay must address the following three points/questions:

a. Why have you chosen aviation as a career?
b. How will earning a degree from SOSU enable you to meet your career goals?
c. Why do you feel you are worthy of receiving an ASI scholarship

5. Copy the MS Word ASI Scholarship Essay Template to your computer, complete your essay and fill out all of the information required on page three.

6. Email your essay to Dr. Conway at dconway@se.edu no later than 1 March, 2008. The subject of the email must be "Scholarship Essay".

Printed copies of your essay will not be accepted.
