BYLAWS OF SOUTHEASTERN
OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY FLIGHT TEAM
Section I. Name
The name of the organization shall be Southeastern Oklahoma State University Flight Team.
Section II. Members and Membership
Membership for this flight team will be open to any current student of SOSU. Membership will be valid for a year. If a member competed the year before, membership the next year is automatic. Any member who participates in flight team competition must meet current NIFA competition requirements. Any potential member must be voted in by majority vote of current members present at the meeting the vote is taken. There must be at least 50% of the current members present to vote in any new members.
The members (other than team officers) of the Flight Team that will go to the NIFA Regional (or National) Competition is decided by a try out held during the fifth week prior to the competition. The official competition roster will be filled twenty-eight [28] calendar days prior to said competition. Members that do not go to the competition are still a part of the SOSU Flight Team.
Section III. Officers
Elected officers will consist of Captain, Co-Captain (Flight Events), Co-Captain (Ground Events), Secretary/Treasurer, and other positions deemed needed by the captain and other officers. Each officer must be a full time student with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 or above. All elected officers must attend each required meeting.
Captain- The Captain's responsibilities include conducting all required team meetings, delegating authority to officers, and has final authority over any team decision.
Co-Captain[s]- The Co-Captain[s] is in charge of making schedules of practices for the various competition events and keeping attendance record of event practices. Whenever the captain is absent, the co-captain of flight events will assume the captain's duties.
Secretary/Treasurer- The Secretary/Treasurer will be responsible for taking minutes at all meetings, writing all documents required or needed, keeping and maintaining attendance records at the required team meetings, and maintaining the current roster. He/she will collect and maintain any and all expenses and be responsible for keeping records of all money transactions through the SOSU Flight Team, as well as presenting the account balance information upon request of the team captain. Treasurer will also be responsible for the organization of all fundraisers.
Section IV. Elections
Nominations for officer positions will be taken at an annual meeting by team members. Each nominee may decline his or her nomination if desired. Each nominee will be required to give a short briefing of his or her self before final elections will occur. Elections will be held during the first meeting after regional competition. Each member present will be allowed to cast an anonymous vote for each officer. Ballots will be collected and the team coach will announce the results.
Section V. Dismissal of officers and/or members
At the discretion of the captain and a two-third's vote of no-confidence, an officer or member may be dismissed with reasonable and valid cause: conduct unbecoming a member, negative attraction/promotion, negative attitude, lack of attendance at practices and team meetings, and/or the neglect of duties and responsibilities will be subject to a period of probation or automatic dismissal. With a majority vote, the team has the right to dismiss the current captain with reasonable and valid cause. The team will vote (majority) to determine which of the two co-captains will assume duties of captain. The flying events' co-captain will assume the responsibilities of captain until a determining vote is conducted. The SOSU Faculty Flight Team Advisor has the final authority of removing officers and members.
A member may be allowed back on the team by a majority vote by the members of the flight team at that team meeting.
Section VI. Meeting and Practice Attendance
All meetings will be held at least once a month. Additional meetings may be held at the discretion of the officers. Practices for each event are held at the discretion of the co-captain of said event. Three [3] unexcused absences will be grounds of review by the flight team officers and may be grounds for membership dismal. During the summer (that time which begins the day after the last day of finals for the Spring Semester and the first day of class in the Fall Semester), each member is allowed an additional five [5] unexcused absences.
Section VII. Finances
Expenses will be equally split among all participating members, and the team
treasurer will collect those expenses. Any money raised during the year is
available to be split by each member participating in the competition to cover
hotel expenses, entry fees, and anything else determined by the officers.
However, a member will only put his/her portion of this money toward expenses
if, and only if, he/she is able to raise a total of at least $100 of donated
contributions to the team. A member may work off this minimum amount of money
in any Flight Team fundraiser. One hour of work is equal to $10.
